Iowa Criminal History is a private reference resource, not an Iowa government office. Requests for official criminal history, court documents, correctional information, police reports, or county records must go to the public body that maintains the source file. Iowa DCI handles statewide criminal-history responses, while other records belong to the Iowa Judicial Branch, Iowa Department of Corrections, Iowa Sex Offender Registry, or a local custodian. The routes below identify the proper starting point, and the county directory connects readers with agencies across all 99 Iowa counties.

This Is Not a Government Office. Iowa Criminal History cannot retrieve an official record, perform a government record check, correct or remove an agency entry, or receive an expungement filing. Contact the Iowa agency or court that has legal custody of the record.

  • State custody or supervision: use Iowa Department of Corrections Offender Information
  • Registry information: use the Iowa Sex Offender Registry maintained by Iowa DPS/DCI
  • Police and incident reports: ask the police department, sheriff, or Iowa State Patrol unit that created the report
  • County records: find the proper sheriff, jail, police agency, or district court clerk through the Iowa county directory
